Birthday Parties

Around the World in 80 Plays – Parties is all about having fun, being creative, a little bit of learning and lot of sharing. The children are taken on a 2 hour journey to explore the world and its cultural differences. Exploration is through play, games and craft offering a new and exciting party for your guests. Its very hands on and discovery is all through the 5 senses….. Just the way children love it!

The best thing I can say up front is “I am here to help”

  • To help make the day memorable, special and fantastic fun for your child.

  • To help take the burden and organisation head ache away from you as parents

  • To ensure you get a unique event tailored to your family, your heritage or culture.

Around the World in 80 Plays literally takes off on a 2 hour journey around the world where we visit 7 countries and have fun doing a variety of activities in each one.  But don’t forget I can also tailor the party specifically to your needs….if he/she just wants to have party on Africa and go on Safari then that is not a problem we can do 2 hours of fun and games just on that.

As we know Phileas Fogg flew around the world in 80 days, inspired by his epic  journey Philippa Frog and the children will lift off to explore the world in 80 plays!

The Party

The party venue can be at your home or at an external location (see package information below for further details)

The children arrive and are greeted by ‘Philippa Frog’ the expedition leader. She seats all the intrepid explorers on the world map and begins to explain the events that will follow. The Birthday girl/boy becomes ‘Pass-R -2’ (Passepartout- Phileas Foggs trusty side kick) and Philippa Frogs special helper for the day!

Pass-R-2 then helps Philippa Frog take Polaroid photos of all her friends and sticks the photos into their passports. The children will need to carry these at all times to gain entry into each country where they will receive stamps and stickers on arrival.

Philippa Frog and Pass-R-2 then hand out the children’s explorer aprons, which the children need to wear for the expedition. (protect their party clothes) They are also equipped with binoculars, a compass, a light and a map – they are then ready to lift off in the hot air balloon and get transported around the world.

As they board the hot air balloon the children are given their expedition backpacks. These are FREE with one of the party packages (see below) and then become the children’s party / lolly bag to take home with them at the end of the party or they can just used for the play if you provide your own party / lolly bags.  These bags will help the children collect and stash all the goodies, craft etc picked up from each country.

Throughout the expedition, images, music, video clips etc will be projected on the walls and played to heighten the children’s sense of adventure and stimulate the senses. Anecdotes, country specific facts and trivia will provide a constant dialogue, to allow the children to learn and appreciate a little more than just through the fun and games.

We will visit 7 countries during the party each stop providing a different element of party fun for the children; Arts Craft, party games, energetic activity, quiet time. The countries we visit can be selected by you to reflect your own cultural background and personal items, photos, memorabilia etc can with included prior arrangement.

Food can be supplied by you, or our snack boxes are served after the first 3 counties & Cake served at the end.

Below is a selection of countries with a variety of activities, with various levels of difficulty. These are listed to help provide you with examples of the possibilities available – these are only a guide!

If you are interested in Arts and Crafts only, or more physical activities please note that on your booking form.

EXAMPLES OF COUNTRY SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES – For all ages

  •  CHINA – ENERGY BUILDER!

In the China area there will be a variety of hanging decorations, Chinese lanterns and dragons.

There will be Chinese music playing, a net suspended from the ceiling which will send down a swamp of red balloons. This is a party favorite; when the balloons are popped there are sweets inside.

We then take a breath and watch a video projection on the wall of a Chinese dragon dance…..Then all together the children perform their own dragon dance or Dragon Tag where one become the head, the other children hold each other one behind the other to the last child is the tail. The tail then chases the head and they swap until all have been the head.

  •  JAPAN – DRESS UP FUN & LANGUAGE

In the centre of the room, In 2 teams they have to dress up one of the children in the team of the team in a Kimono and then put the right Japanese labels on the parts of the body e.g – Ude – Arm. There are fans and shoes to dress up in. Winners get a fortune cookie

The next game in pairs they have to eat marshmallows with chop sticks! Remaining sweets & chopsticks get put in the back pack.

  •  ITALY – ART CRAFT

The Italian area will be decorated in red white and green and some wall hangings. The craft activity is to make beautiful Venetian masks.

To save time at the party the masks will be prepared and painted and the children will be left to decorate with feathers, and jewels. There will be Italian music playing in the background and A nice idea is to have Pizza delivery……

  • AFRICA – GUESSING GAME / DANCING

Guess who – One person put on a head band with an animal from Africa on. The person with the headband asked questions but the other children can only answer yes or no. Guess the animal.

African music, drums and percussion to learn African tribal dancing.

The children are given an African animal sticker for their back pack. For older children there is a Zulu Warrior head dress and bead making craft

  •  EGYPT – LEARN FACTS – TEAM GAME

Discuss how archaeologists visit Egypt because of the historic things that can be found on a dig…explain a archaeology dig.

Activity for young ones – Fill a small inflatable pool with sandbox sand and add some plastic rings, snakes and bugs. Divide the kids into two lines and they race one by one to run to the sand filled pool grab one of each item and then race back

The winning team was the one who finished first but they all won the same prizes the things they found

  •  CHILE – CRAFT & MUSIC

Talk about the desert, its geology and climate. Discuss how rain sticks were considered to be invented in Chile.

Make rain sticks using paper towel rolls that have been pre-covered with tan construction paper and foil that has been pre-twisted. Beans are then added to make the sound.

Use rain sticks to make music and have a rain dance

  •  ANTARCTICA – SCIENCE

Look at photos and video and talk about climate change and global warming. Ask the children  “what do you think of when you think of cold” someone should say snow of course and then we can make snow.

Instant Snow will be made…..the boys LOVE IT

  •  FRANCE – GIRLY ACTIVITY / DRAMA

Create a “Perfumeries”– a table with 9 gold bottles (travel-size plastic bottles spray-painted) filled with various scents. Some nice: vanilla peppermint and spearmint; some not so nice: garlic eucalyptus. Each child “master perfumeries”– has a smell and puts their guess on a little forms.

French activity & Game – Announce the next activity would be an art lesson and send the birthday boy /girl to the ‘Louvre’ (out into the hall) to fetch the Mona Lisa for a demonstration. They return a little confused to tell me that all the paintings were gone. GONE or more dramatically that they must have been STOLEN! The children are told they’d better go look for clues! A ransom note will be found and so the treasure hunt with clues and finds begins.

 The end of the party

  • The Hot air Balloon returns home to Sydney and we will all sit on the mat

  • Philippa Frog reads a (5 min) short story as means of calm down and relax.

These are illustrated stories that I have written based on my own personal travel journals and will help to illustrate to the children the REAL world outside of the world of play and fantasy that has been explored today.

Philippa finally arrived at Walters home after walking for 2 hours down the KwaZulu Natal countryside. She approached his house which was bustling with people busy working. Walter explained it was his daughters wedding day at the weekend so out side in the garden his other daughters were brewing beer in big drums over and open flame and making bread for the festivities. Walter told Philippa he had 3 wives, 17 children, 8 daughters and 9 sons! And when one marries he must pay for all the food and beer and travel expenses for everyone to come to the wedding…..but in return he will get a ‘Dowry’ from her husband’s family and this will help to start their married life.“What’s a dowry?” Phillipa asked and Walter explained it was 8 cows, 2 chickens and a sheep….!

Finish with Cake & Happy Birthday
